Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
Make the Batter: In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla and milk.
Combine Dry Ingredients: Sift in the flour and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Assemble the Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the jam over the top, followed by a layer of whipped cream. Place the second cake layer on top.
Finish: Dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
